Guide to KENWOOD TM-261A Transceiver
The TM-261A is an amateur radio two-meter mobile transceiver
capable of trans-mitting up to 50 watts FM 144-148 MHz &
receiving118-136 MHz normally AM & 136-174 normally FM
via VFO or 62 programable channels (61 regular + Call).
TO USE VFO MODE:
Push VFO. VFO confirmed by frequency only (no channel no.
or C) in display.
Enter frequency by Dial or UP/DN buttons on microphone. Standard
repeater band plan offset is automatically set. To change
offset from normal plan, hold MR 1 second. "+ -"
appears. Use Dial or UP/DN to select transmit frequency.
To tune in 1 MHz steps, push MHz (or PF on microphone). Same
cancels.
To scan frequencies, hold in VFO 1 second. Dial or UP/DN reverses
direction. Any key but DTMF stops scanning. To toggle AM/FM,
push MHz 1 second.
TO RECALL MEMORY:
Push MR. Memory Mode confirmed by a channel number (1-61)
in display.
Select channel using Dial or Keypad or UP/DN buttons on microphone.
To scan memories, hold MR 1 second. Any key but DTMF stops
scanning.
To lock out a channel from scan, select it & push F for
1 second. Use Dial or UP/DN to select “MR.L”.
Push VFO to set, then F or PTT. Confirmed by *.
To select Call Channel, push C (leftmost key on microphone).
Same returns.
To scan between Call and either a VFO or Memory channel, push
C 1 second.
TO TRANSFER A MEMORY FREQUENCY TO VFO: Push F, then VFO.
TO ENTER A FREQUENCY IN A MEMORY CHANNEL:
Select characteristics (frequency, offset, subaudible tone,
etc.) in VFO Mode.
Push F. A memory channel number will appear in Display.
Use Dial or UP/DN to select desired memory channel.
Push MR again. Memory frequency is stored & unit returns
to previous mode. Any existing frequency or other data in
that channel is overwritten.
To program Call Channel, select characteristics in VFO Mode,
push F, then C.
TO SET & USE SUBAUDIBLE (PL) TONE:
Push F 1 sec. Use Dial or UP/DN to select TONE. Push &
hold VFO & use Dial or UP/DN to select desired tone. Push
F or PTT to set & return to mode.
Push TONE button to turn Tone On & off.
TO REVERSE TRANSMIT & RECEIVE FREQUENCIES: Push REV.
TO SET POWER: Push F, then MN LOW to cycle among H (No Ind),
M, & L.
MICROPHONE FUNCTIONS:
On the face of the MC-58DM microphone are four controls keys:
L-R,
CALL. One-touch selection of a commonly used frequency.
VFO & MR. Duplicate functions on transceiver. Reprogrammable.
PF. Duplicate MHz function on transceiver. Reprogrammable.
Beneath the control keys is the 16-key DTMF Keypad (“Touchtone
Pad”).
On the top are (L-R) the UP & DOWN keys.
On the rear is the Microphone Lock key (does not lock PTT
or DTMF).
