Selected Functions of KENWOOD TH-28A Handheld Transceiver
TO USE VFO MODE:
Push VFO. (Conf. by frequency only - no channel no. or C -
in display. Then Select BAND:
- The Main Band covers 118-174 MHz & 340-400 MHz; the
Subband covers 400 - 520 MHz.
In Main Band, select one of 3 ranges (118-136 MHz AM; 136-174
MHz FM; 340-400 MHz) by holding in F 1 second until beep sounds
& then pushing LOW.
Standard 2M repeater offset is automatically set; to override,
push SHIFT as desired.
Tune by Keypad or Dial. To tune in 1 MHz steps, push MHz.
Same cancels.
To scan frequency, hold in VFO 1 second. PTT stops scanning.
Dial sets direction of scan.
TO RECALL MEMORY:
Push MR. (Conf. by ch. in display). Tune via Keypad (0 before
single-digit channels) or Dial.
To scan memories, while in Memory Mode push & hold MR
1 second.
To lock out a channel from scan, select it & push F, then
6/L.OUT. Same deselects.
To select Call Channel, push CALL. Pushing & holding CALL
1 second while in VFO or Memory Modes will scan between Call
Channel & previous frequency.
TO ENTER A FREQUENCY IN A MEMORY CHANNEL:
Select characteristics (frequency, offset, CTCSS tones, etc.)
in VFO Mode.
Push M. Memory channel number will blink.
Use Keypad to select memory channel (0-39). Enter "0"
before single-digit channels.
Push MR. Entry confirmed by disappearance of memory channel
number.
To program Call Channel, select characteristics in VFO Mode,
push M, & then CALL.
To transfer the frequency of a memory channel to the VFO,
push F, then VFO.
TO REVERSE TRANSMIT & RECEIVE FREQUENCIES: Push F, then
*/SHIFT/REV.
TO TURN BEEP TONE ON & OFF: Hold in 8 while turning on
POWER.
TO OVERRIDE SQUELCH(ES): Push & hold MONI (smaller button
on left front side).
LAMP: Push LAMP (smaller button below PTT on left side).
Same cancels.
TO USE CLOCK FEATURES:
To display clock, push F, then 9/Clock. Same cancels.
To set time while in Clock Mode, push F again, then 1, then
rotate Dial to set hours. Then push M & rotate Dial to
set minutes. Push M again to set & return to Clock Mode.
LOCKING: To lock keyboard but not those controls on top or
side of transceiver, push LOCK (switch in front of PTT). To
disable transmit, push F then LOW. "TX.S" confirms.
Same cancels.
TO SET TRANSMIT POWER: LOW cycles between HIGH (no indication;
2.5 W with battery or 5 W with external power), MEDIUM, LOW,
& ECONOMIC LOW power.
BATTERY VOLTAGE: Bar graph indicates voltage when transmitting.
7 units = 13.8 V; 2 units = 7.2 V (fully charged PB-13 battery
pack); 1 unit = discharged.
