Organizing your email becomes simple when you create custom mailboxes for different topics. Whether you’re saving Mac tips, family messages, or work resources, mailboxes keep everything where you can find it.
Creating a New Mailbox
Mac Mail gives you multiple ways to create mailboxes. Here’s a straightforward method using VoiceOver:
- Press Control-Option-M (or Control-F2) to open the menu bar
- Right arrow to Mailboxes
- Down arrow to New Mailbox
- Press Enter
- Type the name for your mailbox (any existing text will clear after your first keystroke)
Name your mailboxes anything that makes sense to you: “Learning the Mac,” “Funny Stuff,” “Family,” or whatever fits your needs.
Moving Messages to Your Mailboxes
You don’t need to open a message to move it. Just position the VoiceOver cursor on the message row you want to move.
To move a message:
- Press Control-Option-M (or Control-F2) to open menus
- Right arrow to Message
- Down arrow to Move To
- Press Enter
- Arrow down to your chosen mailbox
- Press Enter
Your message now lives in its new home, organized and ready when you need it.
