Spell Checking in TextEdit

After writing a document:

Press Command–Semicolon.

VoiceOver will read the misspelled word and highlight it.

Press Control–Option–Shift–M to open the context menu.

Use the down arrow to select a suggestion or another action.

Press Enter to confirm your selection.

If there is no suggestion, you can edit the word manually.

Repeat until you hear a bong sound, followed by “spell checker.”

Spell Checking in Mail

Begin spell check with Command–Shift–Semicolon.

VoiceOver will read the current word being checked.

Press Control–Option–F2 twice to open the list of windows.

Arrow down to Spelling and press Enter.

You’ll be presented with correction options:

Suggested words

Find Next button

Correct button

English pop-up menu

Learn button

Forget button

Browser

Choose a correction word and press Enter, or Tab to Find Next and press Spacebar.

Repeat the process for each misspelled word until you hear the bong sound, signaling completion.

Notes:

In Mail, the spell-checking layout can vary. Sometimes you must Tab left or right to locate the word list.

The Ignore button may appear before the Find Next button.

Spell Checking in Web Mail

After writing a message:

Press Command–Semicolon.

VoiceOver will read the misspelled word and highlight it.

Press Control–Option–Shift–M to open the context menu.

Use the down arrow to choose a suggestion or other action.

Press Enter to confirm your selection.

If no suggestion is available, edit the word manually.

Repeat until you hear the bong sound, followed by “spell checker.”
