Selected Functions of KENWOOD TM-251A Transceiver

TO USE VFO MODE:
Push VFO. Confirmed by frequency only (no channel no. or C) in display.
Select BAND by pushing F, then pushing REV. Main Band covers 118-174 MHz. UHF Subband (U+ in Display) covers 300-470 MHz, Receive Only.
Enter frequency by Tuning Dial or Up/Down buttons on microphone.
Offset automatically set; to change, push SHIFT to step among Simplex, +, and -.
To scan frequency, hold in VFO for 1 second. Any key stops scanning.
Scanning is normally up in frequency; use Dial or Up/Down to reverse direction.

TO RECALL MEMORY:
Push MR. Memory Mode confirmed by a channel number (1-40) in display.
Select channel using Tuning or Keypad or Up/Down buttons on microphone.
To scan memories, hold MR for 1 second. Any key but DTMF stops scanning.
To lock out a channel from scan, select it & hold LOW 1 second. Same deselects.
To select Call Channel, push CALL (leftmost button on microphone). Same returns.

TO TRANSFER A MEMORY FREQUENCY TO VFO: Push F, then VFO.

TO ENTER FREQ BY MIC [Menu B, No. 50, must be ON; correct BAND must be selected]:
Push A, then enter freqncy via DTMF buttons. On VHF, the 1 is already entered.

TO ENTER A FREQUENCY IN A MEMORY CHANNEL:
Select characteristics (frequency, offset, subaudible tone, etc.) in VFO Mode.
Push F. A memory channel number will appear.
Use Tuning or Up/Down to select the desired memory channel (1-40). (Standard repeater offset is automatically set. To change, hold MR 1 second. "+ -" appears. Use Tuning or Up/Down to select transmit frequency.)
Push MR again. The memry frequency is stored & unit returns to previous mode.
To select Call Channel, select characteristics in VFO Mode, push F, then CALL. (Standard repeatr offset automatically set. To change, hold CALL 1 second. "+ -" appears. Use Tuning or Up/Down to select transmit freq.) Push CALL again.

TO SET AND USE SUBAUDIBLE TONE:
Push F, then TONE/CTCSS. "Tone" blinks and current tone frequency appears.
Use Tuning or Up/Down to select one the 39 available subaudible tones.
Push any button to store the tone and return to previous mode.
Push TONE/CTCSS to cycle among Off, Tone (on transmit only), and CTCSS.

TO REVERSE TRANSMIT & RECEIVE FREQUENCIES:
Push REV. Same deselects.

TO OVERRIDE SQUELCH:
Push PF (rightmost button on microphone). Same deselects.

TO SET POWER:
LOW cycles among High (No Indication), MID, and LOW power out.
